Puppy classes (why we don't offer them)

​We repeatedly see 5 and 6 month old puppies coming out of puppy classes with poor impulse control.
We'd rather get it right first time and save our clients a lot of hard work and precious time rectifying it later on.
The worst outcome we have seen from these classes is resource guarding behaviours - brought on by treats strewn all over the floor amongst a group of eager puppies.

We also consistently see poor impulse control and reactivity caused by frustration. Not fun when you have a fully grown dog!

Unmanaged Impulse & Arousal: Group classes often mandate constant puppy interaction, teaching dogs they must rush every new dog they see. This builds over-excitement, not control.

- The Reactivity Trap (Frustration/Invasion): Teaching a puppy to engage with every dog is a disaster waiting to happen. When they are constantly told to interact, but then the environment prevents them (leash tension, a dog that doesn't want to play), this creates intense frustration, which is a major root of on-leash reactivity

Forced Proximity & Guarding: Cramped group settings often lead to competition over toys or space, inadvertently teaching puppies to guard resources because they learned they have to defend them from other dogs in that close proximity.
